About This Tracker
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) measures the average change over time in the prices paid by urban consumers for a market basket of consumer goods and services. The Inflation Rate is typically reported as the percentage change in the CPI from one period to another, most commonly the 12-month percent change. This tool uses CPI-U (All Urban Consumers, Not Seasonally Adjusted) data.
