Important Notes:
- This calculation uses the IRS Uniform Lifetime Table applicable for distribution calendar years 2022 and later, as found in IRS Publication 590-B.
- This calculator is for informational purposes only and should not be considered financial or tax advice.
- RMD rules can be complex and may change. Always consult official IRS publications (like Pub 590-B, Retirement Plans and IRAs) or a qualified tax advisor for your specific situation.
- Special rules may apply if your sole beneficiary is your spouse who is more than 10 years younger than you. In such cases, the Joint Life and Last Survivor Expectancy Table might be used, potentially resulting in a smaller RMD. This tool does not use that table.
- RMDs generally apply to Traditional IRAs, SEP IRAs, SIMPLE IRAs, 401(k) plans, 403(b) plans, 457(b) plans, and profit-sharing plans. Roth IRAs do not require RMDs for the original owner.
- The RMD starting age has changed due to legislation (e.g., SECURE Act, SECURE 2.0 Act). For individuals turning 72 after Dec 31, 2022, the RMD age is 73. This will eventually increase to age 75. Ensure you know your correct RMD starting year.
